About Us
Cara House Family Resource Centre promotes and supports the health, well-being, and quality of life of families and individuals in the heart of Letterkenny through social, recreational, and educational activities.Cara House opened in May 2004 to provide a constructive and enjoyable space for people who have time on their hands during the daytime. In 2008, it became a Family Resource Centre—one of 121 centres under this national programme. Originally opening just three evenings and one morning a week, Cara House now operates six days a week.
The work of Cara House, which includes activities, courses, interest groups, and various services, provides a valuable resource for the entire Letterkenny community, supporting individuals throughout all stages of life, especially during vulnerable times. Cara House welcomes everyone with respect, offering peer support, friendship, and acceptance. It is socially inclusive, with high-quality services and activities offered at rates that make them accessible to all. Clients are encouraged to provide peer support, share encouragement, and contribute their expertise, ideas, and time, thereby fostering a caring community.
Cara House has been fortunate in attracting staff who embody these values through their caring natures and dedication to all who attend. Many of the staff, both paid and volunteers, have worked happily at Cara House for several years.
